Tips for Spring Flower Planting Success

From clubhouse grounds to home lawns, planting season is rapidly approaching. Taking a few extra steps to ensure your flowers get off to a strong start can go a long way in determining their long-term success. This guide is designed to simplify that job, providing Best Management Practices (BMPs) on soil preparation, fertilization, planting, and more. We’ve also provided product recommendations, with a dynamic combination designed to increase nutrient availability and deliver colorful, healthy flower displays.

SOIL PREPARATION
Loosen the soil to a depth of 6” to promote root growth and water movement.

AMEND SOIL
Lightly till or mix RejuvaSoil with the existing soil at a rate of 5 lbs per 1,000 sq ft.

Containing Humic DG™, BioChar DG™, and a beneficial microbial package, this soil enhancer increases microbial populations, adds organic matter, and improves nutrient efficiency.

FERTILIZATION
Directly before planting, fertilize using 9-12-6 with HCU at rates listed below, depending on desired nitrogen and phosphorus application rates.

Combining Humic Coated Urea (HCU®), Black Gypsum DG, and SmartPhos® DG, this balanced nutrient profile helps to ensure strong root development and vibrant blooms.

PLANTING
Follow proper planting depth and spacing recommendations for each annual plant. Water thoroughly after planting to settle the soil and provide initial root-to-soil contact.

WEED PREVENTION
Apply a layer of mulch or utilize a pre-emergent herbicide once plants are established. Consult the label for approved ornamental species.

CONTINUED CARE
Reapply 9-12-6 with HCU at recommended intervals to ensure continued plant growth and flower production. Foliar feeding with standard Humic Coated Urea (HCU®) is also a good option in between granular feedings.
