Lose the Filler

A traditional 50-pound bag of 22-0-4 fertilizer contains about 20 pounds (or 40%) of rock limestone filler, a material that provides no agronomic benefit.

22-0-4 with HCU 9-12-6 with HCU

In our 22-0-4 and 9-12-6 fertilizers, we’ve replaced the limestone filler with Black Gypsum DG and Humic Coated Urea (HCU), delivering humic acid, carbon, calcium, and sulfur. Rather than being partially full of rock, these bags are full of granules that each serve a purpose.

A bluegrass softball field in suburban Chicago two months after renovation. Fertility applications included 21-22-4 with Mesotrione, 3-2-1 with Hydra Charge®, and 9-12-6 with HCU and Black Gypsum DG.

The 9-12-6 with HCU fertilizer also features MAP and our SmartPhos® DG, providing both quick-release and slow-release phosphorus sources. This is an excellent grow-in fertilizer that encourages seedling root development and provides improved phosphorus availability in the soil.

Why Humics?
Humic acids help turf develop longer, more branched root systems and help the soil build organic matter, acting as a carbon and nutrient storage site. Humic acids have also been shown to increase nutrient use efficiency, decreasing the amount of nutrients needed to apply while not reducing turfgrass quality.
